What is the stellate ganglion?

The stellate ganglion is a bundle of sympathetic nerves located in the front of your neck near your first ribs (these ribs are right underneath your collarbones). You have one on each side of your neck.

What are stellate ganglion blocks used for?

SGB is used to treat chronic pain, such as complex regional pain syndrome and post-herpetic neuralgia. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Finally, recent studies have shown that stellate ganglion blocks are effective at treating persistent long covid symptoms such as brain fog, fatigue, headaches, sleep problems, loss of taste and smell, increased heart rate, etc.
